Children
Regular dental care is just as important for kids as it is for adults. At Battlefords Dental Centre in North Battleford, our services can be tailored to meet your child's oral health needs, and help keep their smile healthy and happy.
At Battlefords Dental Centre, we passionately believe in helping children to establish a trusting relationship with their dentist early on.
By helping young children to feel at ease during their dental appointments, our goal is to teach kids how to maintain good oral health today and into adulthood.
We provide a wide range of dental services for North Battleford kids, and are committed to providing your child with the most positive dental experience possible.
Going to the dentist can be an intimidating experience, so we strive to keep the environment calm, friendly and inviting. We will work at your child's pace, take breaks if they get overwhelmed, and explain each step of the process.
Babies should visit a dentist by the time they turn six months of age or at minimum by their first birthday. By this time, the baby's first teeth, or primary teeth, are starting to erupt. It is a critical time to spot any problems before they become big concerns.
At Battlefords Dental Centre, we can customize our services to fulfill your child's oral health needs, and keep their smile healthy.
Visiting the dentist for regular exams and cleanings when your child is young will help preserve the primary teeth until they fall out naturally and are replaced by the permanent teeth. At each appointment, we will review proper preventive hygiene techniques to ensure your child's smile is getting the proper care at home.
Children's Orthodontic Consultations & Treatment
Early intervention and treatment for children with orthodontic issues such as misalignment or crowding of teeth is key to their oral health and development.
These issues can be identified in children as young as 7 years old, and early treatment can be started to help avoid the need for more invasive procedures such as tooth extractions and oral surgeries later in life.
We encourage families to come in for early consultations to discuss treatment options.
If your child is deemed to be at risk of decay, develops a cavity, or is experiencing misalignment issues, your dentist may also recommend restorative treatments such as dental fillings or mouth guards.
Children's EZ-Pedo White Crowns
When a baby tooth (which holds the place for a permanent adult tooth to grow in later) is damaged or decayed, we may need to place a crown on the tooth to ensure it stays in place until the adult tooth is ready to erupt.
EZ-Pedo Crowns are white, prefabricated ceramic crowns specially designed for children. Made of solid zirconia, these crowns are durable, natural-looking, smooth, shiny, and impermeable to staining. These protective crowns are designed to blend in with your child’s surrounding natural teeth.
With sedation dentistry, we use a mild sedative to ensure your child is calm for their dental procedure, although not sound asleep. We may recommend nitrous oxide sedation for children with special needs or high anxiety about visiting the dentist, or multiple or lengthy procedures.
Also known as “laughing gas” nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that can safely help your child to stay relaxed during their procedure.
An oxygen mask, which carries air mixed with the medication will be used, and your child will breathe through their nose. The sedation takes effect within about 5 minutes and the mask stays in place until the procedure is complete.
Your child will remain awake during the entire procedure and may experience a “happy” feeling. The nitrous oxide will be turned off when the procedure is complete.
Your child will then breathe in pure oxygen for about 5 minutes so any remaining gas is cleared. He or she should eat a light meal, such as toast or bagel, before the procedure.
We understand that accidents can happen to children any time and anywhere, and cause dental emergencies such as knocked out, chipped, fractured, or lost teeth.
If your child experiences a dental emergency, please contact us and we will schedule an appointment as soon as possible. We are committed to making every dental appointment - even unexpected ones - as comfortable, relaxing and pain-free as possible for children.
For children who are too young for certain dental procedures, they can be performed in a hospital setting under general anesthesia (provided by an anesthetist).
Patients with special needs, or unusual or complex oral facial conditions can benefit from the integrated specialist care at hospitals, where specialists and dentists collaborate to serve patients safely and effectively. Dr. Aucamp works at the Battleford Union Hospital helping to provide emergency dental care for children.
