We encourage our patients to remain physically active and to play the sports they love. A custom-made mouth guard can help you stay safe while you play by providing a barrier between the soft tissues of your mouth and your teeth.
A sports mouth guard fits over your teeth to protect them from injury, or anything that could cause harm. We strongly recommend wearing one to patients who play any sports where they risk their mouth, teeth or jaw coming into contact with objects or people.
If you grind your teeth during sleep, a night mouth guard will help protect your teeth from damage. If you clench your jaw, a mouth guard will also help prevent you from clenching and provide some pain relief.
Over time, teeth grinding or jaw clenching may harm both your upper and lower teeth, and cause jaw pain. For patients with bruxism (grinding), a night guard acts as a buffer, preventing contact between your teeth as well as the resulting damage. Your dentist can fit you with a custom-made night guard.
