At Battlefords Dental Centre, our dentists perform oral surgery procedures to treat dental issues and help improve oral health.
Oral surgery includes the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth and jaws.
Our goal is always to use the least invasive treatment possible for a given dental problem, nonetheless, in some cases less invasive treatment options are simply not enough to resolve an issue, and oral surgery is required.
While we always prefer to save a natural tooth, there are some instances where this proves impossible. If a tooth is too badly damaged as a result of decay, gum disease or injury, it may need to be removed by your dentist.
Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. If the wisdom teeth are causing problems for your oral hygiene, your dentist may recommend removing them to help preserve your oral health.
For patients with more advanced forms of gum diseases such as periodontitis and advanced periodontitis, more invasive surgical treatments may be needed.
In these cases, options include a range of surgical gum therapies including guided tissue regeneration, flap surgery, bone grafting and tissue grafting.
The procedures are designed to either remove diseased bone and gum so oral hygiene is made easier, or to reconstruct missing tissue back to a healthier state.
